Dear Parents and/or Guardians, Welcome back to the beginning of a brand new school year! With the COVID 19 still among us, the Granite School District School Board and Administration has asked teachers to provide face-t0-face learning this year, and provide students with social distancing, as well as stringent hand and desk sanitizing throughout the day. Students will also be carefully tracked as to who they sit by in class and during lunch in case of a COVID outbreak.
This year, the online portion of student learning (done in class) will be to do 20-30 minutes of ST Math each dayas well as 25 minutes of Lexia.Lexia is the district-paid online program that gives students extra practice on differentiated language arts levels. Xtra Math is an online math fact practice program for your child to use to help master his/her math facts. We will be doing one session of Xtra Math each day. This should only last 10 minutes or so if the student stays focused and on-task. Typing Club is the final daily online independent program that will be assigned. By the end of 2nd grade, students are required to type an informational paragraph on an assigned topic. If the student doesn't have a pretty solid knowledge of where the letters are located on a keyboard, this paragraph can take well over an hour to type. By practicing typing daily through a game method, students are able to do much better on the end-of year assessment.
GO MATH! is our district's mandatory math program. WONDERS is our English Language Arts program. There will be daily assignments for both of these. Watch for math and language arts papers to come home. Glance through them with your child to see what they are learning and how they are doing, and then recycle them! I will check my email twice each day on school contract days, before and after school, should you have any questions or concerns. My school email is: [email protected]. I wish you the best in the weeks to come. May you stay happy and healthy. -Mrs. Petersen
